Dear Exhibitor of the Salon d’Automne 2020,
Following the announcements by the Minister of Health Olivier Véran on Wednesday, September 23rd, about the situation related to the continuation of the spread of COVID 19, the definitive cancellation of the Art Élysées 2020 Fair was announced in the press by the company OREXPO with whom we have had, since 2011, a partnership to share costs for the rental of the spacious exhibition tents on the Avenue des Champs Élysées in Paris.
As a result, the Salon d’Automne is forced to physically renounce its 117th edition which was to take place from October 14th to 18th.
In fact, the new sanitary rules announced to no longer allow the event to be held under the pavilions that were to host the exhibition. The gauge of the gatherings limited to 1000 people represents a presence of 1 person per 25m2, with prohibition of the opening of the exhibition no matter what happens. This situation is not tenable for a show like ours within the expectations you have the right to anticipate. Unfortunately, we share your disappointment.
In order to remain in solidarity with all the artists who trusted our company by applying during the hard period of the confinement, a virtual proposal is already under study in order to present on canvas, as soon as possible, the selection of the 2020 jury. The catalog in the process of being printed will be available as soon as it is published as the witness of the 2020 selection.
In order to remain in line with its status as a non-profit association, recognized as being of public utility, although the rules of the exhibition contained in the registration form do not provide for a refund in the event of cancellation due to force majeure, which is the case today, the Salon d’Automne wishes to maintain a virtuous attitude towards you. A financial briefing in the budget is under way to determine the amount of the partial refunds that the Salon d’Automne will offer you, within the limits of its possibilities, for the hanging rights paid. With two and a half weeks left before the inauguration, a large budget has already been invested, it will not be possible for us to refund your payment in full. Nevertheless, all unsigned quotes and all uncommitted expenses are now blocked in order to face the consequences of this forced cancellation. A precise financial report of this novel situation will be kept. You will shortly receive further information on this subject.
All the volunteer members of our team are infinitely sorry for this situation which is completely beyond our control. The Salon d’Automne must show creativity and resistance in this period so difficult for everyone. More than ever, it will be necessary to reinvent new actions to achieve the goals of our association of which I remind you the terms: “To promote art and artists of all types at its disposal, including the organization of exhibitions both in France and abroad”.
The Salon d’Automne is an association that enjoys a great reputation thanks to the efforts of all who make it shine from Paris and beyond our borders. Let’s remain united and positive in the face of this new adversity, together we are stronger. No one knows what the future will bring, we are more determined than ever to continue the adventure of our artistic community, long forged by the five generations of creators who have preceded us.
