Victor Sydorenko… is a painter, curator, teacher, creator of various objects and photomontages, but also a scientific and advertising writer. Since 1997 he has been vice-president of the Ukrainian Academy of Arts.
Sydorenko's journey from realism to neo avant-garde is representative of the explosion of creativity of the last generation to have lived under a totalitarian regime. His inspiration leads him to scrutinize Time, Memory and History. He dives with artistic recklessness into the pangs of memory loss, dissects the legacy of post-totalitarian doctrine, always sympathetic to the elusive individual identification of those who live in an increasingly complex modern world.
*For the purpose of this Series, we may showcase artists born on the modern Ukraine official territory, whatever the geopolitical situation at the time of their birth.

About the artist, by Susanna Muradyan & JD:

У к р а ї н с ь к а:

Artyom Tolstuhin…was born in Crimea, a place where the sun, the Black Sea and the mountains predisposed him to any form of landscape painting. Add to this a touch of French impressionism for the freedom, colourfulness and special rhythms so congenial to him, and Artyom worked out his own unique manner on the fringes of graphism, painting and decoration. Between close observations of everything organic around him, he also became a rare specialist of monumental paintings restoration, as well as one of the leaders of the Union of young Kharkov artists.
*For the purpose of this Series, we may showcase artists born on the modern Ukraine official territory, whatever the geopolitical situation at the time of their birth.

Artist: Victor Zarubin
Life data: 1866-1928; Kharkiv, Russian Empire
About the artist, by Susanna Muradyan & JD:
У к р а ї н с ь к а:

Victor Zarubin… had studied painting with J. Lefebvre and T. Robert-Fleury in Paris, where he held his first exhibition, in 1896. Then, he became an apprentice of the famous Ukrainian/Russian painter A.Kuindzhi.
Zarubin - the master landscape artist - is famous for his stately depictions of Breton and Norman scenes, often animated with small figurines of local inhabitants, on their way to church or other occupations. His elaborate series of landscapes of the Ukrainian countryside, with white huts and working peasants, are also memorable.
